Academia; I've been thinking about this word a little bit in the last few days. I recently had a friend who graduated last year tell me that life will never have the same amount of fiery debates, hotly contested topics, and general learning that my life is consumed with everyday. Think about what you potentially learned today, and it doesn't even have to be a classroom example. Lots of things hopefully come to mind.
College is not only about learning book knowledge, but about figuring out how to live life! We spend 24 hours a day (minus the 4 we sleep during) learning. The word academia defined means, "the environment or community concerned with the pursuit of research, education, and scholarship," so it is a community of learning. People, never again in your life will you be exposed to the same amount of new things that you are today. And everyone around you is there to bounce ideas off of!
I feel that in college we take for granted the awesome amount of learning we get to be a part of. Look at us! We are on the edge of the academic world map! We are pushing the boundaries of everything that humanity knows! We are the future!!!
Right now, however you are laughing at how ridiculous the past couple sentences are. And perhaps rightfully so, but is it maybe possible in a few years you will look back and wish you were in this unique environment of growth and learning again.?
So what to do, what to do? Well, we don't want to seem TOO excited about college work (that would make us losers and geeks, right?). And we'd hate to actually learn stuff in college (only over-achievers buy/read books!). How about we waste our time here with video games and gossiping? (I do love a juicy drama-filled story!)So here's to the cool kids: the students who do their very best to not learn anything at college! Spirit of academia? Pshhhh, I'd rather talk about Halo and how cute that certain someone over there looks.
Don't even think about this... it wouldn't be "cool",
